This reporter learned from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate that the case of Liu Zhiqiang, former member of the leading party group and vice minister of the Ministry of Justice, who was suspected of accepting bribes, was investigated by the State Supervision Commission and designated by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate to be examined and prosecuted by the People’s Procuratorate of Wuhu City, Anhui Province. Recently, the Wuhu Municipal People’s Procuratorate has filed a public prosecution with the Wuhu Intermediate People’s Court.
During the review for prosecution stage, the procuratorate informed the defendant Liu Zhiqiang of his procedural rights in accordance with the law, interrogated the defendant Liu Zhiqiang, and listened to the defender’s opinions. The procuratorate’s indictment alleges: Defendant Liu Zhiqiang took advantage of his position as director of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, vice governor of Qinghai Province, director of the Provincial Public Security Department, member of the leading party group and vice minister of the Ministry of Justice, and member of the National Narcotics Control Commission, as well as the convenient conditions for the formation of his authority and status, to seek benefits for others and illegally accept property from others, the amount of which is particularly huge, and he should be investigated for criminal responsibility for the crime of accepting bribes in accordance with law.
