More than 400 college students were defrauded of over 80 million yuan!

Why does a seemingly formal employment contract become a tool for fraud? What kind of scams are hidden behind the routine employment procedures such as written examinations, interviews, medical examinations, and training?

This is a huge fraud case that lasted for nearly three years, more than 400 college graduates were deceived, and the property loss totaled more than 80 million yuan.

From the end of 2021 to June 2024, criminal suspect Yu Mou, on the grounds that he could handle the entry of regular employees of central enterprises, state-owned enterprises and other units, teamed up with Su and others to carry out recruitment and recruitment fraud against college graduates from cities and prefectures in Gansu Province. The victim said that the fraud gang has a professional training institution and a complete induction training process, and the office is also located in a high-end office building, and every link looks very formal, so he firmly believes in the suspect’s statement at first.

After the case was discovered, the Lanzhou police quickly set up a special task force to carry out investigation and evidence collection, and seized a large number of forged internships, job searches, agency contracts, and various test papers used for training and examinations at the so-called human resources company’s premises. In addition to the regular “onboarding process”, some victims even went through the so-called “onboarding” and entered the company for a so-called “pre-job internship”. As a result of participating in the “pre-job internship”, the victim believes that the victory of the official job is in sight, but in fact, these links are all elaborate performances of the fraud gang.

Qiu Yanping, deputy head of the three major criminal investigation teams of the Xigu Branch of the Lanzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau, said that this is a large-scale, well-organized, vile and typical case involving college students’ employment fraud since the public security organs across the country launched a special operation to crack down on the illegal crimes of impersonating ministries, commissions, state-owned enterprises and central enterprises. At present, the case is still under further investigation. This case integrates the impersonation of state-owned enterprises and central enterprises with job search fraud, and uses spending money to “ask for help” as the main means of illegal enrichment, which also exposes the difficulty of preventing and blocking employment fraud of “asking for help”.

Bai Haijuan, an associate professor at the School of Law of Gansu University of Political Science and Law, said that the majority of job seekers should establish a correct concept of employment, do not blindly pursue “preparation”, and comprehensively consider the work content and their own career planning.
