The first batch of 200 Chinese suspects involved in fraud in Myanmar’s Myawaddy region were escorted back to China via Thailand
On 20 February, as China’s civil aviation chartered planes landed one after another at Nanjing International Airport in Jiangsu, the first batch of 200 Chinese suspects involved in fraud in the Myawaddy region, which Myanmar repatriated to China, were escorted back to China by China’s public security organs via Thailand. This operation is a landmark and major achievement of China-Myanmar-Thailand law enforcement cooperation, and fully demonstrates the firm determination of the three countries to jointly crack down on transnational crimes such as telecommunications network fraud and jointly safeguard regional security and stability.
In view of the current grim situation of telecommunications network fraud in Myawaddy, Myanmar, the Ministry of Public Security continues to strengthen law enforcement cooperation with law enforcement agencies in Myanmar and Thailand, and makes every effort to promote joint crackdowns. At the end of January this year, with the strong support of the Chinese embassies and consulates in Thailand and Myanmar, the Ministry of Public Security sent a working group to Thailand and Myanmar to hold several rounds of talks and consultations with the law enforcement departments of the two countries, and reached a consensus on further strengthening the tripartite law enforcement cooperation between China, Myanmar and Thailand, exploring the establishment of a joint anti-crime mechanism, and jointly cracking down on transnational crimes such as telecommunications network fraud and human trafficking.
Recently, the police of China, Myanmar and Thailand have stepped up their efforts to jointly crack down on telecommunications network fraud in Myawaddy. Thailand has taken measures such as cutting off electricity, internet and oil in the Myawaddy region, strengthened inspection and control along the Thai-Myanmar border, and resolutely blocked the smuggling and transfer channels of people involved in fraud. Myanmar has deployed a centralized inventory of the Myawaddy region’s electric fraud parks, arrested suspects involved in fraud, and rescued trapped Chinese citizens. Thanks to the close coordination and joint efforts of the three parties, significant progress has been made in the crackdown work, and a large number of suspects involved in fraud in Myanmar’s Myawaddy region have been arrested. On 20 February, the Burmese side transferred the first batch of 200 Chinese suspects involved in fraud to Mae Sot, Thailand, and the Ministry of Public Security organized the police of the Jiangsu public security organs to carry out a chartered flight to escort all the relevant personnel back to China. According to the work arrangement, it is expected that more than 800 Chinese suspects involved in fraud will be escorted back to China one after another. In addition, the 10 important suspects involved in the case of Chinese citizen Wang and others who were deceived into going abroad and lost contact and were trapped and illegally detained were arrested by the Thai police, and were successfully escorted back to China by our public security organs in the early morning of February 15.
The relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Public Security said that the crime of telecommunications network fraud has become a global problem in cracking down on governance, and it is necessary to increase international law enforcement cooperation. China, Myanmar and Thailand will carry out joint crackdowns on transnational crimes such as telecommunications and network fraud on a regular basis. The public security organs will also deepen pragmatic cooperation with more countries, make every effort to rescue the trapped people, make every effort to arrest the “financiers” and backbones, resolutely clean up the electric fraud parks, reduce the living space for crimes, and earnestly safeguard the safety of the lives and property of Chinese citizens.
