Shi Suixiang, director of the National Marine Information Center, said that a prominent feature of the development of the marine economy last year was that the key marine manufacturing industry maintained rapid growth.

According to the data, in 2024, the added value of China’s marine manufacturing industry will be 3,182.9 billion yuan, accounting for more than one-third of the total marine production value, and the role of “ballast stone” will continue to appear. Remarkable results have been achieved in the high-end, intelligent and green development of marine ships, and the international market share of new green ship orders has reached 78.5%.

The offshore engineering equipment manufacturing industry continued to recover, and its international market share remained the first in the world for seven consecutive years, with an added value of 103.2 billion yuan, an increase of 9.1% over the previous year. New breakthroughs have been made in the manufacture of marine organisms. BG136, the world’s first anti-tumor marine polysaccharide drug, completed phase I clinical trials, obtained clinical approval for LY102, a new anti-hepatitis B virus drug, and built a marine microbiome database with 2.458 billion gene sequences.

Another outstanding feature is that the marine service industry plays a significant role in driving the marine economy. In 2024, the added value of the marine service industry will be 6,284.9 billion yuan, accounting for 59.6% of the total marine production value, driving the growth of the marine economy by 3.6 percentage points. The marine tourism market continued to heat up, cruise tourism was booming, and the added value of marine tourism reached 1,613.5 billion yuan, an increase of 9.2% over the previous year.

Gu Wei, director of the Department of Marine Strategic Planning and Economy of the Ministry of Natural Resources, said that China’s ability to guarantee marine resource elements has been steadily enhanced, effectively guaranteeing the demand for marine islands for major projects such as oil and gas, offshore wind power, etc.

According to the data, in 2024, there will be 4,123 new approved sea island projects in China, a year-on-year increase of 70%; the area was 263,000 hectares, a year-on-year increase of 6.9%; The investment involved in the project was 1.07 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.3%.

New progress has been made in the development and utilization of marine energy. The increase in marine crude oil accounts for nearly eighty percent of the total increase in crude oil in the country, and continues to become the main position for China’s energy reserves and production.
