On March 3, Eastern time, the U.S. announced that it would impose another 10% tariff on Chinese products exported to the U.S. from March 4, citing fentanyl and other issues. China strongly deplores and resolutely opposes this, and will take countermeasures to firmly safeguard its rights and interests.
China is one of the countries with the strictest and most thorough anti-narcotics policy in the world, and China and the United States have carried out extensive and in-depth anti-narcotics cooperation and achieved remarkable results. However, the US side “shifted the blame” and made mistakes again and again, using the fentanyl issue as an excuse to impose tariffs on Chinese products exported to the United States. This move by the US side ignores the facts, ignores international trade rules and the voices of all parties, and is a typical act of unilateralism and bullying.
China has repeatedly stated that the US unilateral tariffs violate WTO rules and undermine the multilateral trading system, which will not only fail to solve its own problems, but will also undermine China-US economic and trade cooperation and the normal international trade order. China urges the US to respect the rights and interests of other countries and immediately withdraw its unilateral tariff measures that are unreasonable and groundless, harmful to others and beneficial to itself. It is hoped that the US side will view and handle the issue objectively and rationally, and return to the right track of properly resolving differences through dialogue on an equal footing as soon as possible.
