According to the official Weibo account of the Cyber Security Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, recently, a rumor that “by the end of 2024, the mortality rate of people born in the 1980s will exceed 5.2%, meaning that among every 20 people born in the 1980s, one has already passed away” has aroused widespread attention. Some netizens took advantage of this rumor to spread false information, stir up negative emotions and sell health supplements. The cyber security department of the public security organs has conducted an investigation in accordance with the law.
After investigation, netizen “Teacher Xia” posted a video “How many people are left after the 80s” in Shanghai, fabricating that “the remaining survival rate of the post-80s has dropped to 94.8% (mortality rate of 5.2%)”, which has become the source of data for the follow-up series of rumors.
Since then, in order to stir up emotions and sell health care products, individual netizens have continued to fabricate a series of rumors such as “the mortality rate of the post-70s generation is lower than that of the post-80s”, “a few classmates have left early”, and “3 post-80s people I know have hung up”, which has aroused the attention of netizens and caused adverse effects.
In this regard, the cyber security department of the public security organ imposed administrative punishments on 3 netizens, including Xia, Yin, and Zhu, in accordance with the law, and criticized and educated 6 netizens, including Shi Moufeng, Li, and Gao.
