“Shenzhen Traffic” official announcement
Shenzhen’s first undersea tunnel
Ma Wan Harbour Tunnel
Official traffic!
The Ma Wan Cross-Harbour Tunnel connects Qianhai with Dachao Bay Port area. It starts at Moon Bay Avenue, runs north through Qianhai Bay and ends at Xixiang Avenue. The road length is about 8.05km.
The project is divided into two parts: underground roads and surface roads.
- The underground road is classified as an urban expressway, with six lanes in both directions and a design speed of 80km/h;
- The ground road grade is a city trunk road, with six lanes in both directions and a design speed of 40km/h.
The Mawan Undersea Tunnel consists of two cross-sea shield tunnels with a maximum excavation diameter of 15.5 m. It is currently the largest diameter underwater shield tunnel in China.
The completion of the Mawan Undersea Tunnel connects the port freight channel of Shenzhen Nanshan Port, and takes into account the passenger traffic of Mawan, Chiwan and Dachanwan. It can also realize the separation of passengers and freight and the diversion of transit traffic in the Qianhai area , and realize the expansion and integration of urban development space.
Multiple innovative achievements displayed
As Shenzhen’s first cross-sea passage, the Mawan Undersea Tunnel is also a key demonstration project for connectivity and transportation construction in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
During the construction process, through technological innovation and intelligent construction, we continuously broke through traditional technical barriers and actively carried out scientific research, overcoming construction difficulties such as super-large foundation pit construction in reclamation areas, underwater parallel intersection of super-large diameter shields, and shield tunneling in soft and hard composite strata. We continued to adopt four new technologies and won more than 85 awards of various types, including 5 at the provincial and ministerial levels or above.
