Myanmar’s National Defense and Security Council held a meeting in Naypyidaw on the same day and decided to extend the state of emergency for another six months, as reported by Myanmar Radio and Television on January 31.
The meeting also discussed Myanmar’s defence and security, agriculture, education, health, post-disaster reconstruction, the peace process, the census and preparations for the general elections.
In February 2021, Myanmar’s then acting president, Myint Swe, declared a one-year state of emergency across the country and handed over state power to the commander-in-chief of the National Defence Forces. Myanmar has since extended the national state of emergency several times.
